The palaces set within the azure waters of Lake Pichola are a beautiful sight.Udaipur is small enough to explore on foot, we really liked that. We also loved the relaxed atmosphere and had time to chill rather than running around trying to see lots of sights. Wandering around the town’s narrow streets was a joy, getting lost and browsing leather goods shops in the bazaars and finding colourful doorways, murals and street art. The only downside of Udaipur were people constantly approaching us ‘Where are you from?” or “I like your shirt” or “I like your trainers … come see my shop and make me happy” it gets a bit irritating after a while. But a firm “no thank you” does the trick.Udaipur is the small lakeside city in India’s Royal state of Rajasthan. Famous for its scenic location, Rajput-era Royal palaces, old havelis (merchant houses) and luxury hotels. Udaipur is Rajasthan’s romantic white city located on Lake Pichola. The lake is actually man-made built in 1362 to accommodate Udaipur’s water needs. In a very dry season, it can be completely empty.   Visit City Palace | Jagdish Temple | Saheliyon ki Bari | Fateh sagar. Over night Stay In Hotel.

There are two islands in the lake. The Jag Mandir island with the Garden Lake Palace and the Jag Niwas island with the expensive Taj Lake Palace hotelBoth sun rise and sun set are the best times to enjoy Lake Pichola. It is very popular to take a boat ride to see the beautiful view on the city palace and the ghats of Udaipur or to visit the Garden Lake Palace. After Gangaur ghat and Pichola Lake head to the Udaipur city palace. It is one of the largest palaces in Rajasthan. The palace was built over a period of 400 years and is actually more a complex with several interlinked buildings each with their own gateways, courtyards and gardens.

The city palace flourished when Udaipur was the capital of the Mewar kingdom. The Mewar kings have lost their royal privileges when India became independent in 1947, but the family still owns the palace. Furthermore, they still see it as their duty to work in favour of the development of Udaipur.

A large part of the palace complex is now a museum while the Shiv Niwas  palace and the Fateh Prakash palace have become a heritage hotel.
